AR15 Sales Decline, Time To Get That Deal

AR15 Sales Decline, Time To Get That Deal
After the election results concluded that our gun rights would at least be protected for another 4 years fear-driven AR-15 sales have declined. This decline is a problem for the manufacturers and dealers nationwide. But basic economics tells us that now could be the time to get a great deal on an exceptional rifle.

Build or Buy?

Go to any gun store (at least in a free state) and the shelves will be adorned for beautiful semi-automatic rifles. Everything from your standard or what I would call your base AR-15 to tricked out, high quality custom rifles. Which one is right for you? It’s all about preference and budget. $500 rifles will be in most gun owners’ safes, but a unique custom AR like a Cobalt Kinetics would be something that will attract plenty of attention at the gun range and is an absolute beauty to behold.

My first AR rifles were bought. I started with a base model and changed things as I became more familiar with the platform. The possibilities are virtually endless, and modifying and making your rifle unique is a hell of a lot of fun. WARNING: Modifying your rifle is incredibly addictive and is not for the weak minded.

More recently I turned to building AR-15s. There is something truly satisfying with piecing together a zombified work of art, matching high quality parts from multiple manufacturers. The thing to remember with this is that when you buy a rifle from a manufacturer they have tested that rifle as one entity for quality. When you build you are utilizing individually tested parts but ones that have not been tested together. Head spacing, dwell time (especially if building an AR pistol) are all essential checks that need to be made. We always recommend having a certified gunsmith double check your work. There’s nothing worse than spending a few grand on an awesome AR build to have a disastrous malfunction the first time you try to shoot it.

Multiple Uses

AR-15s have a lot of uses. Switching out barrels (though generally people just keep separate uppers) you can go between 5.56 and 300blk. 300blk has proven very effective for hunting. The increased popularity of 3-gun competition has led to lightweight variants coming to the forefront designed for quick transitions and speed shooting. The emergence of the AR pistol in order to bypass the NFA has also made for a CQB-style AR that can be used for home defense. Not debating whether it’s the perfect home defense gun (we have a blog on that too) just that it’s being considered by many across the country for that use.

Get The Deal

When you buy from Aegis Tactical you can rest assured you are getting the best deal. We price match everywhere we can. We’re a small business and we appreciate you for using us to fulfill your habit. Get a great deal on an AR-15 at Aegis Tactical; we also stock accessories and when you buy from us we’ll install them for you.

Bottom line, manufacturers and distributors are trying to make their prices more attractive and we are passing those savings on to the customer. Stop in and talk to us about your next AR build, buy or modification.

Glock 43 vs Walther PPS M2

Glock 43 vs Walther PPS M2

When two giants collide in their bid for concealed carry supremacy there can be only one winner; the consumer. Opinions are divided as to who is top dog of the single stack and for those of you who are weighing up either one, let’s see if we can figure this out once and for all.

Ergonomics

We’ll start with the Glock 43. Comfortable in the hand, it has never felt snappy or like a bar of soap in the shower. An assured feel that is exactly what you would want in a concealed model. Being single stack it has a much slimmer profile that its compact brethren and of course it is a shorter grip too. The butt of the gun is tapered to help minimize printing which means that you will generally run out of grip in the lower part of the palm. This was never an issue for me as the higher beavertail and extended mag ensures full control of the weapon.

Score: 4/5

The Walther PPS M2 has taken note of the success of the PPQ and has integrated finger grooves on the grip and the extended magazine it comes with completes it for a solid full grip of the firearm. The PPS M2 is an exceptionally comfortable gun to shoot. The gun seats itself perfectly in your grip and the slightly added length versus the G43 gives that little extra confidence in the shooter. I am yet to hold a single stack firearm that is more comfortable than the PPS M2.

Score: 5/5

Concealability

There is very little difference in the overall length and height of these firearms. In terms of weight the G43 is 5oz. or some 20% lighter. I didn’t find this to be an issue and as such they score very similar in these categories. During my time with both I found that there is a slightly higher chance of printing/detection while utilizing the PPS M2 extended magazine compared to the G43 however if you use an aftermarket extension on the G43 you will find yourself in the same position. Remember though it is giving you two extra rounds versus the standard G43 so I felt the reward warranted the risk.

Both Scored 4/5

Trigger

A trigger can make or break an otherwise perfect firearm. Glock has never been a leader in the perfect trigger, but it is 100% functional nonetheless. The break on the G43 feels a little tough and the “wall” was something that you have to become used to but is rated at 5.5lbs. and allowed for good accuracy. The reset is typical Glock, very positive. I opted to add the Ghost Inc. Edge Connector and this made the trigger smoother at the wall without removing pull weight. No impact to reliability was detected and it turned an average Glock trigger into a good one.

Score: 4/5

With the PPS M2 I had hoped for a PPQ-type trigger. They certainly gave it everything they had. It has a short take up and the break is rated 6.1lbs. so is slightly heavier than the G43, but any concealed firearm you want in the 5-6lbs. range so it is perfectly fine. A nice crisp break and positive reset certainly makes it a great trigger out of the box. While it did feel a little gritty initially, after 100 or so rounds it was broken in and smooth.

Score: 4/5

Accessories

The outrageous popularity of the Glock brand ensures it maintains its supremacy of the availability of aftermarket parts. The G43 is no exception. Upgrades for sights, magazine extensions, barrels and triggers are readily available. The rather tough trigger can be fixed with a simple Ghost Edge Connector or a full replacement by a companies like Apex Tactical can be life changing. I’ve never been a fan of the stock goal posts and would highly recommend the Trijicon HD Night Sights, but there so many options to suit all preferences. Magazines are also very easy to find for this firearm.

Score: 5/5

Walther has available aftermarket sights and the availability of magazines has increased significantly. There have been rumors of aftermarket triggers yet I am yet to see one. While there is not as big a market for Walther parts they have been able to get coverage for the important parts.

Score: 3/5

It’s important to note that for a carry gun you will want to be conservative with your upgrades. Reliability of a firearm can be adversely affected with every change that is made and any change to the trigger assembly is not always advisable. For me personally I made only one slight change to smooth out the pull on the G43 but that is as far as I would go; so not having the ability to do a full trigger job on a PPS M2 is irrelevant in this context.

Conclusion

The Glock 43 may be the one that everyone wants but the Walther PPS M2 is a heavyweight throwing some big punches. The ergonomics of the PPS M2, the solid trigger and the availability of the high quality aftermarket sights make it a fantastic contender for the crown of Concealed Carry King. The Glock 43 however makes exceptional use of its trustiest platform in a mini format with high quality characteristics and infinite aftermarket parts to make it the true King of the concealed game. Stop by Aegis Tactical today and see which one you prefer.

Carry Concealed, Always?

Carry Concealed, Always?
I recently took a vacation to The Keys; a beautiful little spot with a lot of history but also now many bars and a rapturous nightlife. Going with friends we planned on a weekend of drunkenness and debauchery. I had debated on whether to take my sidearm with me but felt somewhat uncomfortable; where will I keep it when we go drinking? Will it be safe in a bag at the beach or if we go out on a diving excursion? It was quite the dilemma. The thought of leaving my gun somewhat unattended or at risk of being stolen was unsettling. But then again what if I didn’t take my gun and this was the one time I might need it? I had heard of several recent incidents on i75 where carjackings were occurring around the Miami area and I didn’t want to be caught out by not having my weapon. What could I do to ensure I had a fun trip but still had protection if I needed it…

Mobile/Portable Safe

Lately I’ve been on a gun-fever-ravaged spending spree and let me tell it has been amazing! Pistols, rifles, optics and other accessories have been piling up… The thrill of the missus almost finding my latest cache of weapons has been a thrill. But I’ve neglected something very important; a portable safe. Most gun owners have the big safe at the house but what about when you’re traveling? I hadn’t been on vacation for a long time (so I was overdue to say the least) but I was found to be totally unprepared. I’ve never trusted the safes that are provided in hotels. You hear the horror stories of staff doing away with your belongings and quite frankly the idea of keeping your more expensive belongings in a place everyone knows where to find them (in the closet) unsettles me. A safe like the Vaultek V20i or similar alternative would be perfect for storing precious belongings when taking them out with you for the day is a not possible. The benefit to this is you can hide it basically anywhere in the hotel room so if someone did break in they would have to search a lot harder to find your stuff; remember any safe is generally a resistance factor, it won’t stop a well-prepared thief.

Social Pressure

I didn’t have a safe and so the next thing comes to mind that reminded me of my youth; what if I get denied access to a bar after an “ocular pat down” from security identifies I’m packing? While many of the bars doubled as restaurants in that area (making my carrying legal) they can always turn you away for any number of reasons – I can hear it now, you can’t see it when I’m carrying concealed blah blah blah… ok Mr. Badass Operator Hero, ok. Or what if the females in the group had some spontaneous desire to do something like skinny-dipping and I had to leave my gun on the beach unattended while we swam in the twilight? FYI it didn’t happen, but you just never know. It seemed that having my gun may cause some restrictions as to the activities we could partake in on any given day. Best advice for this is to plan ahead so you know what you’re doing; then you decide if the Glock can accompany you for the evening.

Understanding The Law

You can’t legally carry a firearm where the primary purpose of the business is to serve alcohol. If the premises is also a restaurant that is fine, but if you enter a bar carrying you are breaking the law. Bar and other nightclubs have been known to give pat downs prior to allowing entry and the risk of bring caught is a lot higher… Don’t be that guy. Either avoid the place entirely or leave your gun at the hotel. It’s not ideal but it’s a choice you have to make.

Calculated Risk

Bottom line you have to weigh up the pros and cons of taking your gun with you on a beach-type vacation. There are plenty of excursions you will go on where carrying your weapon will be absolutely fine and then others where it is not ideal. While we all like to think when we carry concealed nobody can see it the reality is that none of us are perfect and the chances of being detected is only one print or shirt move away. Take your gun, keep it in a safe when you can’t have it with you and keep your wits about you. I took a risk but it paid off; next time I’mm take my own portable safe.

Infringe on Our Rights, Infringe on Their Profits

Infringe on Our Rights, Infringe on Their Profits

Recently it was revealed that The Cheesecake Factory at UTC Sarasota had placed a sign on its door stating “no guns allowed” on the premises. The company (different location) made nationwide news last year when they asked a group of uniformed police officers to leave because their firearms were visible. The uproar and outrage from the gun community was loud and clear, our rights will not be infringed. The bottom line however is that our rights are being hindered whether we like it or not, challenged by social justice warriors and corporate entities that seem to know very little about reality. Often times the response goes along the lines of I’ll just carry concealed in that store/restaurant anyway; if I’m properly concealed they will never know; we will not comply. But these responses leave me perplexed; here is a company that wants to unarm you and take away your right to protect yourself yet you would still give them your money and shop/eat there? Are you fucking insane? We need to get smart on this issue.

Paying to Take Away YOUR Rights

Every time you visit a business that is anti-gun you are filling the coffers that fund anti-gun policy. Cheesecake Factory, Starbucks, Target; these are just a few schmucks that fund anti-gun, demented liberal logic. Every time you buy an Iced Cinnamon Almond Milk Macchiato or the Skinnylicious Chicken Enchiladas you are paying for protests and demonstrations and anti-constitutional legislation. When there are so many great local options available where the people make great food and actively support your rights (think Ferraro’s in Parrish, FL – love these guys) why on Earth would you even consider frequenting an establishment that is working against you?

Think Smarter

I know you didn’t vote for Killary in the General Election so I can already tell you are smart. But as a group we need to wise-up. Corporations are only in business for one thing, profit. How do we make them understand our discontent? They don’t care if we “rebel” and they don’t catch you with a weapon in their establishment because their long-term goal is to take away all of our guns and so a little deviation in the short-term is of no importance to them as you are providing them with the finances to meet that final solution. STOP GIVING THEM MONEY! Businesses only respond when sales are down, when the profit is not on target. Act with your money.

Final Thoughts

Carry your gun with confidence, but not to any business that doesn’t acknowledge your right to defend your own life. The urge to react in today’s society is always strong but a measured and logical response is far greater than the demented logic that providing funds to those that attack our rights is fine because I will not comply anyway. The “no gun” signs in stores have no legal authority; you will not be arrested for carrying in one of these businesses. However they will ask you to leave and failure to do so may result in a criminal trespass charge. Why would you give your hard earned money to someone that would treat you like that for doing nothing wrong?

Introducing the Vaultek VT20i Safe

Introducing the Vaultek VT20i Safe

vaultek_vt20i_product-shoot_above_2000x1333_092616A lot of gun owners that we talk to keep a gun next to the bed for home defense. Most of them use a portable-style safe but are always concerned that access may be difficult to access if the time should arise. There are some that are also concerned about keeping unauthorized users at bay. To put all of those minds at rest Vaultek has released its V20i Bluetooth and biometric operated portable safe that may be just what you are looking for. With easy access for the owner and a number of safeguards against unintended users (children) Vaultek has created a very appealing option for protecting your home.

Vaultek Strong

Made of 16-gauge steel and weighing in at approximately 7lbs this safe is a small behemoth. It utilizes double-walled side panels and a deep set locking mechanism; the lid seats very tightly on the main frame when locked and it feels solid. This offers superb resistance against being pried open. In the box you will also find hardware to affix the safe to a flat surface for additional sturdiness as well as a 4ft steel security cable should you wish to use it in a car.

The V20i features a dual lock system with 2 deep seated latches on either side of the safe for further security. The hinges are also completely hidden that alleviates the vulnerabilities on the backend too.

Bluetooth Enabled

Unique to the V20 series, this unit is fully Bluetooth enabled meaning it can be operated and maintained via a free-to-download smartphone app. With it you can monitor the battery life, add and delete user fingerprints, change the entry passcode and open the safe with the swipe of a button. The app also features a tamper monitor and can be setup to send immediate notifications if the unit becomes “aware” of an attempted unauthorized access (wrong passcode entered). It will also automatically go into security sleep mode after a certain number of incorrect passcode/biometric entries.

With the increasing number of smartphone-literate 5 year-olds the app can also be password protected to further safeguard against unauthorized access.

The V20i also comes with a 5-digit keypad that can house passcodes from 4-8 digits and a biometric system that will keep up to 10 unique fingerprints in its memory bank. Oh, and a key-lock for you old school folks too! The unit runs on a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that will run for 3-4 months with normal use with battery level detection and low level warning when it’s time to recharge. The included AC adapter and micro USB charger will ensure the safe can be easily charged in its prime location in the house.

Size and Pricing

This safe is slim and certainly sleek in design however it is also capable of housing many types of pistols with its spacious internal 11in x 5.5in x 1.5in dimensions. With a foam-padded liner it will keep your gun finish protected.

The Vaultek V20i is available for $249.99 and offers everything you could possibly want for a portable safe. There is very little out there in the marketplace that offers quite as much value as the V20i. With its added security via the hidden hinges, two-point anti-impact latches and anti-pry rugged steel construction as well as multiple access options the V20i is a great addition to any gun owners household. Stop by the Aegis Tactical store for a demo today. (TW)

Don’t Panic… Yet

Don’t Panic… Yet
dont_panic_tom-1-of-1
This is a difficult topic to discuss especially when you work for a gun dealer. Time is drawing ever closer to a significant vote that will shape the future of shooting sports and potentially gun ownership in general and the decision on whether to buy guns now or wait is weighing heavily on many a gun enthusiast’s mind. In an attempt to remain objective I will lay out what I believe needs to be considered over the next few weeks with regards to that purchase decision.

Availability

Gun dealers across the country have been snapping up as many guns as possible getting ready for a hike in demand and potential manufacturer/distributor price increases that would invariably come should the general election not go to plan. This means that guns are still available and therefore getting the one you want at this time should not be a major problem (unless of course you want a hard-to-find at-the-best-of-times gun). However it can also mean that when you see it available, now may be the time to take the plunge. As with any product in the marketplace demand can outweigh supply and availability can shift from abundant to scarce in a heartbeat.

At this point we don’t know what will happen so we can only hope for the best and plan for the worst. At Aegis Tactical we have been trying to ensure that we have enough product on hand for the price our customers want to pay that will keep the timely flow of guns into the rightful hands of law-abiding citizens. As an individual I find myself asking whether that gun I have been contemplating will still be here in a few weeks or months when I’m ready to buy. Sometimes the timing is off kilter and the right time may have to be now to ensure that I can get it. If it’s available and will not put me in a financial bind what difference will it make whether it’s now or later? This is the question you must ask yourself as in a few weeks or even days the availability can change dramatically.

Pricing

We have not yet seen a hike in prices. This means you should not be perturbed by those dealers who are already peddling higher prices; we will keep our prices the same until we have no choice due to higher distributor pricing. This is of course a time-tempered anecdote; tomorrow we may have to pay more for new stock and things can literally change overnight.

Independently price and availability do not seem to be a huge concern however we must acknowledge that the two are linked heavily in a free market. As availability dwindles and dealers can no longer restock the shelves prices will invariably increase; the decision to purchase earlier will generally ensure a better outcome for the buyer on OTD pricing. I would always advise against waiting until the last minute.

Assault Weapons Ban (Ongoing Rumors)

I hate the term as it is fictitious but I’m talking from the perspective of an ignorant liberal politician not a gun enthusiast who knows what a semi-automatic sporting rifle is. Would she ban AR15s and high capacity magazines? Is it even possible? It was done before and in certain communist states it is being done now so it is in the realm of possibility. How long would it even take to enact? I cannot answer any of these questions and I honestly don’t know what is being planned behind the scenes. But what I do know is that politicians are not to be trusted and there are many people asking and thinking about these very issues. At Aegis Tactical we do not instill fear; we do not try to sell guns by peddling falsehoods about what may happen after the election. But on a personal level I do wonder; and I know if I’m thinking about it so is everyone else. I don’t want to be the one who is left out because I waited and pondered instead of acting before it is too late and there is nothing left to buy but an overpriced gun I could have bought weeks ago for $600 that is now $1200.

Make Your Own Decision

Ultimately you must decide; it’s your money and currently your Right. You could take something of a gamble and wait to see what happens. Everything could work out perfectly; I hope it does. But there is a chance it may not. Weigh the options, consider the situation and make the best decision you can. Many law-abiding Americans around you are having the exact same thoughts. At the end of the day if it’s the gun you want and you buy it ahead of schedule; is that such a bad thing? Better to be safe than sorry in my opinion, which is why I have guns in the first place. Choosing the Right Holster

Choosing the Right Holster

Aegis_holster_reviewThere are so many options when it comes to choosing the right holster for your gun it can be quite overwhelming. The number of custom-made holster manufacturers is growing at a blistering pace which is great, but how do you decide which is best for you? The difficult decision is amplified when you cannot find said holster at your local shop to see it, touch it and try it. Due of the increase in concealed carrying individuals in the US there is also the potential to end up buying from a company that is jumping on the bandwagon without the needed experience or proper equipment. I recently had this experience which is what prompted this; simply put, buyer beware.

Basics

The holster is a vital piece of equipment that essentially bonds you with one of your primary defensive weapons. Poor design or fitment can cause issues when trying to draw from concealment, concealability can be jeopardized as well as overall comfort in wearing the holster. With so many options out there, how do we make the right decision? Generally we use price as a deciding factor which is ironic given that we’re willing to spend $400-500 on a sound carry gun but cheap out on the much needed holster. However the good news is that there are some highly reputable holster makers that through good research you will find offer a fantastic product for a relatively low price.

Ease of Access

You want a holster that provides enough security that wit will keep your gun concealed and safe from attackers but that also allows for relatively easy access when you need it. There are a few options available; OWB and IWB being the most common methods. IWB (inside the waistband) is the easiest and most effective form of concealed carry especially in Florida. In general, larger framed handguns can be concealed more easily by using IWB versus OWB. OWB (outside the waistband) is still an effective method of carry for a lot of people, however the advancements in comfortability and use of the IWB holsters has taken center stage in the 2A community.

Comfort

You want to keep it hidden and keep it safe; you also want to keep it comfortable. Not only do you not want anyone else to know you’re carrying, you want it to be so comfortable that you don’t feel like you are carrying. If you are struggling and constantly adjusting your weapon in public, people will take notice. In fact you’ll probably look outright suspicious. A good holster is the main connection between user and gun; it should be comfortable and natural. A solid design is important and so are quality materials. There are some holsters on the market that claim to be of great quality, however their materials are substandard and do not last under the rigors of testing in the real world. Which leads us to…

Brands

Sometimes I like to go custom-made however when it comes to holsters I strongly believe you should go with something that has been tested in the real world with readily available reviews etc. Sometimes being the only person with a product is not a good thing (like owning a Hi-Point; why oh why would you do that?!). This includes local companies; there are a plethora of local holster companies that make high grade products and have exceptional brand recognition. I fully support that.

The holsters below have received our AA rating (Aegis-Approved) and are available for purchase at aegisguns.com;

Buyer Beware the Gun Show Holster

Something happens when people go to gun shows. They start off with a tight game plan of exactly what they want and then work through the doors and it’s just pure delirium! With the bright lights they lose the common sense factor. There are holster makers that use high end equipment to mold your holster; then there are some like you’ll see at the gun show that use cheaper methods that give the look of a working shop which adds to the experience, but then leaves a lot of disappointment later down the line. Unfortunately this happened to me. I got caught up in the headlights; excited to get a cool holster that had a cool design on it. I got it home and found that with each attempt to holster the gun it became more difficult to the point where it would not fit even under  lot of tension. What a disappointment. Don’t be like me, learn from my mistakes. (TW)

Product Review: Glock 43

Product Review: Glock 43
glock_43_grayWith solid brand recognition and resounding consumer anticipation the Glock 43 hit the market with an ever reliable bang (or ‘pew’ if you live that life). Some 18 months later and this concealed carry champ is still a hot ticket item that never seems to stay in stock for quite long enough. I was able to get my hands one at the beginning of 2016 and this review details the 10 months we have been together.

Initial Thoughts

I remember the first time I laid my eyes on the Glock 43. It sat proudly next to its big brothers in the 26’s, 19’s and 17’s. It had retained some of those familiar Glock designs and features; square slide, simple takedown, crisp trigger, horrendous goal post sights (sorry I just really don’t like them) and the Gen 4-style stipple on the grip. While the stipple finish was similar it did not have the finger grooves like its big brothers and while initially that was a concern of mine I found it very comfortable in the hand. It found lighter than most of the competition and the ease of which to find holsters and other accessories had me sold.

The single stack magazine meant for a slimmer frame, ideal for concealment albeit less capacity than the double stack brethren. Personally I find 6+1 to be enough rounds with which to defend myself; realistically if you cannot hit your intended target with 7 rounds you shouldn’t be carrying anyway.

First Range Day

Range days are always the best days, you can quote me on that. I took my dearly beloved to the local range with a few boxes of factory ammo and had at it. Immediately I noticed how incredibly comfortable the gun was to shoot. The recoil was well controlled, the trigger consistent and the accuracy very good for a short barrel. I personally found the trigger to be quite crisp with a very positive reset (I have a thing for solid resets). There is quite a noticeable wall and the break took some time to adjust, however I found this to be normal given that this is a carry gun not a competition 1911. I have never been a fan of the goal post-style Glock sights and new that I would need to replace those, but my own bad tendencies aside, the gun shot very well.

Back to the Gun Store

I returned to the store with a smile still as wide as when I had first bought the gun. New sights and a chance to look at what Ghost accessories were available. There are plenty of options when it comes to aftermarket sights with Glocks; their outrageous popularity plays into the owners hands. I wanted simple yet effective and opted for the Ameriglo Tritium 3-dot night sights. Boring I know but this is my primary carry so looking fancy was not a factor in the decision tree. I also wanted to see if there was any way to remove the bump in the trigger. Ghost offers a very simple and oh so reliable Edge Connector that removed the bump yet still maintains the same poundage on the trigger pull. I’m not a fan of changing or in any other way modifying the trigger on a carry weapon however this was a minimal adjustment performed by a professional gunsmith. Back to the range we go…

Boom Goes the Dynamite

New sights and a smooth trigger installed; what a difference. For me the trigger upgrade was well worth it. The 6lb pull was still evident but the smoothness on the uptake and the crispness of the break was superb and very much reassuring. The classic 3-dot sights were far more familiar to me and as such I felt more confident in my follow-up shots. Customers always want to know just how different the trigger will feel with the Edge Connector and I have to remind them that it is a minor adjustment. It still won’t feel like a 1911; it will be solid and consistent but with added smoothness up to the wall that helped me shoot more consistently.

Holster Options

The DeSantis Superfly and Slim-Tuk are two very appealing options with excellent pricing. While the Slim-Tuk is a neatly finished IWB kydex piece with a belt clip attachment, the Superfly is a nylon base with a sticky textured exterior that is designed to fit snugly IWB but without any slip attachment. Sounds odd yet it works so effectively. It can be used it with shorts, running pants, and of course jeans and you’ll never any issues with it falling out or feeling as though it is not secure. Holstering and unholstering is also simple. Personally I like the Slim-Tuk; it is form fitted and very comfortable to wear; you barely notice you have it on.

Final Thoughts

The Glock 43 was and still is my primary carry weapon; I rarely leave the house without it. If you are in the market for a great concealed carry weapon or are looking to add one more to the collection so that you have options, then you need to give this some serious consideration. There are a number of color to choose from; currently we have Gray, FDE and of course Black in stock at the store.

#GunVote

img_5641#GunVote Opinions are like a-holes; we all have one but no one wants to see it. However Constitutional Rights are more closely aligned to The Wu-Tang Clan; you can’t F with them. Can somebody please tell that to the anti-gun, anti-American walking among us who trying to take these rights away?! This year is going to be a pivotal vote, and every constitution-supporting American needs to ensure their voice is heard. Supreme Court Obama has been trying to replace the late Justice Scalia since his unfortunate passing. Luckily the Senate has been successful in blocking him and rightfully so; this is election year (put a fork in him because he’s done). However nothing can be done if Killary takes the helm and nominates one of her cronies; we’re all doomed, even the democrats. Defend the Flag Were you agitated when you saw Colin Kaepernick sit down for the National Anthem? Were you even more incensed when the POTUS defended him? How about the continuing riots? What is going on America?!!??!!! I could go on for days about the disgrace that is President Obama and how much of a disrespectful piece of garbage (said with a Jersey accent) Kaepernick is, but bottom line if you want this to continue don’t vote and allow the left to carry on. Shaping the Future If we make the required change now as a nation we can regroup and fix our country. But we need to act fast. If you haven’t already you need to register to vote for the national election and then show up and vote. As a pneumonia-riddled and generally unhealthy nominee lay in bed recuperating from all of the medical assistance she requires, her unfaithful husband was running the show trying to get people to register to vote. I’m not a conspiracy theorist but we are in trouble with this one. Democrats Incite Violence, Racism & Stereotyping In the gun business we get to meet people from all walks of life; culturally, ethnically and any other –ally that I’m missing. It’s great; we arm, train and protect all Americans equally. However we’re labeled as deplorable and generalized and stereotyped while being accused of doing the same. Isn’t it ironic, if you don’t agree with the Left you are racist? Well this has to change; we must drop the rhetoric and focus on the issues. Good people are good people regardless of their skin color and if we all came together in a show of unity the Government should be worried as we would be so much stronger and they don’t want that. The Government likes to herd sheep, not the sheepdog. My final thoughts come from a young but very wise individual; life is a bitch, don’t vote for one. (TW)

Glock: The Most Beautiful Ugly Gun

Glock: The Most Beautiful Ugly Gun glock_26_color-1 For years Glock has been one of the most popular gun manufacturers in the US. Their ability to construct a firearm that is built to last is unsurpassed and they leave many a customer enamored by the functionality. We do however hear a lot about how “ugly” Glocks are and “why do people even like them?” Hilarious isn’t it; a product designed to keep the peace is being chastised for its lack of aesthetic appeal. Seriously? When choosing a firearm for self-defense, there are a few reasons why the ugly duckling is a great choice. Magazine Compatibility In the event of a crisis or some other zomebie-apocalypse type end of world ish (Killary???) owning a Glock has some excellent advantages. Firstly, providing you have a regular framed pistol (double stack mag) your magazines will be downward compatible. That is, if you own a Glock 19, your 17 & up mags will all fit no problem. So if you have both a 17 and a 19 and your 17 is damaged during the Mad Max style carnage you can simply use all of your mags in your Glock 19 no problem. When you buy firearms from other manufacturers, the same is not always true as their platform is not designed the same. Availability of Parts/Accessories You don’t see many AutoZone stores carrying Porsche or Lamborghini parts, however you’ll see Ford and Chevy all day. Glock is the General Motors of firearms. They make a proven product that is hugely popular and they produce on a large scale. Due to this popularity the availability of parts is vast; every shop in town has something Glock related. So again when SHTF and you’re in a pinch stop by your local Ammunation and you’ll be able to get the hookup on any and all of your Glock needs. It also seems the shooters of today (myself included) are a little different to the old skool Dirty Harry. In the Nu-Skool era we are attracted to RMRs, milled slides, 6stippled grips, flared magwells etc. Now in the real world none of that stuff really matters. Sure it makes the gun look cool but when you modify too much you can royally screw them up and be left with a malfunction waiting to happen. Night sights, Ghost trigger job, match grade threaded barrel, extended slide/mag releases… these are mods that are well worth the money in terms of the benefits to function. And again these accessories are very easy to find. There are a multitude of guns that people go crazy for but the issue is not just finding the gun it’s finding the aftermarket or OEM parts after the initial purchase. Maintenance Glocks are quite possibly the easiest guns to maintain. They run very dry which means they require very little lubrication and thus can run longer between cleaning. This is great if you are out for an extended period of time and do not have chance to clean your weapon. A commonly misperceived issue of gap (mind the gap) between the slide and frame was created purposefully in order to allow carbon to exit the firearm in order for it to run clean and dry. Glocks are easy to field-strip and can be done in minutes if not seconds. Pricing Glocks are priced competitively. They aren’t the cheapest but they don’t need to be; their product is battle tested. Remember you will only need this weapon when your life is on the line; if you don’t think your life is worth mid-$500s then you gots problems. You get a lot in the box (3 mags on the gen 4’s) compared to other manufacturers that only give you 1 mag. Aftermarket accessories and parts have already been discussed however the other key note to that is the pricing; Glock parts are cheap. Because they are readily available they are naturally cheaper. I bought 2 HK mags for a VP9 and paid almost $100. I then took another $100 and bought 3 Glock mags and a Ghost trigger and had some change left over. Glock mags are cheaper than Ruger, S&W and many other “cheaper-upfront” guns. If it’s not a popular gun finding parts and accessories can be painful. Bottom line, Glocks are awesome. They do exactly what they are supposed to and they do it without fail. If you don’t have one, you are quite simply missing out. img_9389_90_91_tonemapped

How Prepared is your Household?

512px-Family95Portrait95-300x199In a life or death situation how prepared is your family? If the answer is not very or at least untested in any way, then listen up. While you may be ready for an intruder and be very competent with your self-defense weaponry, if your other family members are not how can they effectively protect their own lives? You might think you could have been Special Forces but you could well be the first victim of the intruder. If you are dead or otherwise incapacitated don’t you want your family to stand a fighting chance by knowing how to handle and operate a firearm? I couldn’t think of anything worse than, while lying on the floor bleeding to death after being ambushed in my hallway, seeing my family helpless against a sociopathic murdering criminal bastard who means them the worst kind of harm imaginable. In order to combat this you need to make sure you have a well-trained household for such events. Train the Whole Family? Without doubt your spouse should have a fundamental understanding and be competent with firearms. Guns are not for everyone, some people don’t like them. This is fine. But generally your spouse will have some similarities to you and so will at least have an interest that you need to encourage. It seems natural that “the man of the house” has a firearm, but personally there’s nothing more fulfilling than seeing female customers school men on firearms proficiency. Why? Because women are badass and you don’t fuck with badass women. If you have children it is up to you to decide at what age they need to be aware of and competent with firearms. We’ve had people as young as 16 take our concealed weapons training; they learn about firearms, ammunition, maintenance and also the importance of safety. Of course they cannot apply for a license but they have learned in a very safe environment the importance of respecting the gun. It’s not my place to state an age for appropriate training; each person is different and family dynamics and experiences dictate when firearms safety and training is appropriate. As I’ve stated in previous posts, children are very perceptive. They play with toy guns, swords and army figurines. They instinctively know what a gun is and what it can be used for. They do not however always understand the full ramifications of firearm incidents and the devastating capability they possess when handled/used incorrectly. Sign them up for a Class You may think you can train your partner and family however there is no better place to take them for firearms safety and training than to a Basic Firearms CWL class. This is an all-inclusive session that covers all areas of firearms handling, safety, malfunctions and ammunition safety followed by a proficiency test performed with a fully certified instructor. Many people are willing to spend thousands on firearms but really cheap out when it comes to proficiency training. Our Basics Firearm CWL class in terms of value goes ways beyond many of our competitors. For the cost it simply cannot be beaten; people leave our course feeling confident in their ability as well as being far more knowledgeable. We are also here 7 days a week to answer your questions in the future. As a side note we often have customers that come to the shop and want to buy a gun for their partner. More specifically we have male customers wanting to buy their wife a revolver because “she cannot deal with a complicated modern semi-automatic”. I’m sorry but this is bullshit guys; your lady friend is more than capable of comprehending how to handle, maintain and otherwise shoot the shit out of a modern handgun, she just needs the training. Have her take either the co-ed class or the For Women By Women with Lindsey on Sunday afternoons and while she is here she can look at and get a feel for all of the options available. Practice So now everyone in the house has a fundamental understanding; now it’s all about honing those skills through continued practice. As stated above, don’t cheap out on continued training. We have highly competent and experienced shooters come in for one-on-one instructor lessons. Just like everything else in life you’ll always be improving and learning new techniques based on a multitude of scenarios. Your level of experience dictates the class structure but there are many options available such as holster draw training, shooting from cover, more accurate follow-up shots and various shooting techniques. Bottom line is you are not the only one in the house who can be the hero for the family. Any responsible and trained individual under your roof can and should be utilized if such a situation arises. While you may want to be the one to protect your castle, you need your beloved militia ready and able to help when needed.

UNITY

Unity   Aegis_UnityIt has been incredibly busy in the gun business of late. Locally and nationally there have been some tragic events that have caused this; the terrorist attacks, the accidental shooting at a local gun range, the cold-blooded murder of police officers in Dallas and Louisiana, the gun control rhetoric from our POTUS where he put blame on police during the memorial for their deaths. All of this as a demon tries to force her way to the helm of our country. There have been tough times for sure, but there are tougher times ahead.   What Can We Do? It would seem there is no reasoning with those who align themselves with the left. If after the tragic events at a local shooting range you went to their Facebook page you will have undoubtedly seen the despicable comments that some had made with regard to the incident. I was sickened by the opportunistic nature of the attacks, but not surprised. It is abhorrently clear that they want our guns and it will only get worse if she gets into the Oval Office. I think former President Bush said it best, “We judge other groups by their worst examples, while judging ourselves by our best intentions.” This is the same for the gun community; we are being judged based on the actions of a psychopath terrorist who was being investigated by the FBI multiple times. The FBI failed the US, not the current gun regulation. I’m still optimistic she will find her way to prison before the election but nobody wants to die mysteriously so I‘m equal parts pessimistic. So, what can we do? We can all get out there and vote. I met someone at the gun show a few weeks ago in Palmetto; another vendor. When asked about voting by a customer they responded that they will never vote. (Insert expletive here)???!!! Every vote counts. As an individual my voice is quiet, but as a group our voices will be loud and clear. Use that right before Killary takes that away from you as well. Support the Blue We serve police officers daily through the store and meet many at the gun shows on the road. These are extraordinary people who followed a calling that many others simply are not brave enough to. These men and women are great people, and they are just like you and me. The difference is that every day they really make a difference in our community, they keep us safe. It amazed me how those people who participated in the BLM march in Dallas rallying against police officers, soon took refuge and sought the help of the officers when the shit hit the fan. The irony is intoxicating. Simple tip for people; follow the instructions of the officer. If you do as they say, don’t resist arrest, don’t attempt to go for your weapon that is in your pocket, don’t try to endanger the lives of the police, then you will be fine. I have been pulled over on numerous occasions in different states; I’ve never been shot or arrested. Not once. The police officers were always very direct but I was always very respectful, kept my hands in plain sight and always explained my actions before I took them (I’m going to get my insurance from the glove box, is that ok?). Sure I’m perhaps over the top with it, but remember; I know I’m a good guy but the police officer has just met me, they don’t know that and there are plenty of videos that show what can happen if an officer is not prepared for the worst case. We are proud to be a Blue Label Glock Dealer. If you qualify for the Blue Label Program visit our shop for excellent pricing on Glock pistols. We also have some “Back the Blue” t-shirts in stock, $25 with money being sent to the police families in Texas and Louisiana as well as a local child in need of community support. Support Local Gun Shops Do we want you to use Aegis Tactical as your go to shop for all of your 2nd amendment needs? Yes. But we also want you to show your support for the other reputable local gun shops too. What happened locally was tragic, but it was not the fault of the range staff. People shouldn’t fear going there, nor should they listen to anyone that would try to instill such fear in order to push their anti-gun agenda. We’re all in competition but we’re also brothers in all of this. One last thing about supporting local. We’ve had calls and questions quoting prices by online companies being cheaper than ours. Can we match it? Generally the answer is no. Local gun stores run off small margins and can rarely match bulk pricing online. Plus when you pay for shipping and transfer fees the savings are gone, the difference being you just sent your money to Omaha instead of Bradenton. The money we generate in part goes to our wages, inventory and local taxes. You buy from us and money stays in the community, it’s simple. Terrorism In Orlando we lost a piece of freedom. I don’t give a shit if you agree with the LGBT lifestyle or not, they are people who deserve the same standard of life as anyone else. It was a hate crime, it was an act of terrorism, and it was fucking despicable. It will not however be the last we see of it. While Brexit offered some hope to our cousins across the pond that they can claim back what was once a glorious nation, it still showed the enormity of the task at hand. We separated from Britain a long time ago, let‘s not follow their lead down a dark path that will end in more loss of freedom and less security within our borders. Despite the denials of the British politicians, there are areas that the police will rarely go and only if they really need to. The immigration policy over the last 20 years was mishandled and as such there are some extremely dangerous people operating within the UK. The police force in the UK, no disrespect, but it’s a joke. They are powerless. The UK overall is virtually powerless; maintaining our power as a nation is far easier than taking power. The UK was once powerful but gave it all away. Now, if they want to take some of that back it will require a huge amount of force that in today’s society will likely not be tolerated. Let’s make sure we learn from our misguided relatives mistakes; let’s make America great again now before it is too late. Politics and Bullshit Final thoughts on politics. The 2 men shot by police that caused the “outrage”. One was a convicted felon that had a gun. Police responded to a report that he had threatened people with a gun. He didn’t comply with their orders. He was seen on camera attempting to get his gun from his pocket. He died. He could have avoided being killed by not breaking the law in the first place but also obeying the demands of the officers. He made some poor decisions that night and paid the ultimate price. The second individual had a concealed weapons license. He was stopped because he met the description of a robbery suspect. If you have a concealed weapons license, hand it over to the officer with your driver’s license and keep your hands where he/she can see them. If you start putting your hands in places they can’t see you are asking for trouble, whether you are good or bad. Oh, and when your boyfriend is laying there dying you go to Facebook Live? What is this world coming to? If you are in shock why in the hell would your first thought be, “live stream”? To all the people that get bent out of shape and want to protest based on a 20 second video that doesn’t show the entire incident, shame on you. The same as Obama; he can’t wait to start yapping before he knows what really happened. We must seek the truth before we draw conclusions, we must wait for the information to come before we make decisions. And so to those, including Obama, who say it is white officers that are shooting blacks and Hispanics on the streets; the officer that killed the man with the concealed weapons license was Hispanic and was clearly distraught that he felt he had no choice but to take such action. Finding the Best Gun for Concealed Carry

Finding the Best Gun for Concealed Carry IMG_9900 (1) There are so many options when it comes to selecting your primary concealed firearm. So many in fact that it can be difficult to decide what is the best carry gun for you. Before we go any further with this there are a few things you really need to do. First, consider all of your options.  So let’s delve into what we need to consider when picking a carry weapon (focusing on subcompact and compact handguns). Concealable This seems pretty straight forward, a concealed weapon must be concealable; no brainer, right? Well, for each individual, what they can conceal varies based on size, weight, body type, style of clothing etc. What is concealable for one person may not be so for another. I have been carrying a Glock 43; a highly concealable firearm that I forget I am wearing. To someone not accustomed to carrying a firearm this could be deemed too bulky or heavy (sounds crazy I know, but we’ve heard it). Different strokes for different folks; it’s really all about perception. We had a customer visit us a while back and he carries a full-size .45ACP; I had no idea until we got to talking about this subject. His clothes weren’t very loose, but he had a deep concealment holster and made it work. The ease of perceived conceal-ability is a factor for a number of people; the less you have to “work” to conceal your firearm the better. With that comes drawbacks however, some of which we will discuss. Working to conceal something of a compact rather than a subcompact size can have some benefits that may outweigh having to change the closet a little. Single vs. Double-Stack The popularity of handguns sporting single-stack magazines has increased over the last few years. A number of manufacturers have introduced the slim-framed and highly concealable single-stack Glock 42/43, M&P Shield, Ruger LC9s, Walther PPS, and the SA XDS series. These guns are highly sought after and for good reason; they are arguably some the most effective concealed weapons. And I mean effective from a self-defense perspective too; you can easily conceal a small .22 pistol, but it will be virtually useless in a self-defense scenario. A .380ACP or larger will provide the stopping power needed. There are subcompacts available with the double-stack too; currently I would say they have lost some market share to the single-stack subs. Why? Because in my personal opinion if you are going to carry a bulky framed gun like a G26/27, you should just go for a compact-sized firearm and rock the P320, PPQ, VP9/40 or G19/23. For me the biggest factor is width; if I’m already going for a double stack I will be able to conceal a compact-sized gun just as well as a subcompact double-stack one. The larger grip and sight radius just make me more accurate. To reiterate, this is my opinion; the length of grip is a factor for some individuals, less so for me. Magazine Capacity This ties in nicely with the single and double-stack section. The single-stack magazines will have less capacity. With single-stack firearms you will generally find a capacity of 6 or 7+1. Compare this with the double-stack (compact-sized handgun) magazine that will be right around 15+1. So is it worth the extra effort to get the larger capacity? I’ve been carrying a G43 so for me the ease of which it fits into my life has been outweighing all of the other benefits of going for something bigger. For now at least. Depending on preference, there are also a number of holsters that have a slot for an extra magazine. So even if you do go with a single-stack concealable option that forfeits additional rounds, you can still carry an extra magazine for reload. The question you have to ask yourself here; will 6 or 7 rounds be enough to stop an attacker or at least allow me enough time to get away from the situation? For me the answer is yes. The 8 rounds I carry in my G43 (I use the Pierce +1) should be enough for 99% of the situations I could ever expect to see. Should being the operative word; unfortunately until such a time arises, none of us will ever truly know. Shot Accuracy This one goes out to all the ladies in the house (no I’m not an aspiring rapper). The smaller the gun, the bigger the recoil! God knows how many people come and ask for the smallest possible gun and say, “I’m not that experienced with guns I just want a small one that I can handle.” The recoil on a 1911 will be felt less than the snappy recoil on a Ruger LCP. Why? Because the 1911 is heavier and manages the recoil far more easily than a super light LCP. The LCP is a great little concealed option, but you need to understand that its small size makes it harder to handle, and might not be a good fit for you. At gun shows we get a lot of comments, specifically for the polymer striker-fired handguns that they are heavy. They’re actually very light; the issue is that we are mandated to remove the magazine as part of the safety protocol. A loaded magazine in the pistol will equilibrate the weight concern you are having and you will come out with a sound weight distribution that will feel very comfortable in your hands. More weight equals more control. You will generally be less accurate with a subcompact than a compact firearm. The sight radius is longer on a compact firearm (longer barrel and slide) which will create less variance with slight movements while shooting. The compact gun will be slightly heavier due to the overall size and also increased magazine capacity; this will reduce felt recoil and allow for faster follow-up shots. The grip will be larger too; if you cannot comfortably grip a firearm whether it’s too large or small you will struggle to shoot effectively in a self-defense situation as you will be consistently working against it. Choose What Fits You Best Ultimately you have to decide on what works best for you. What feels best in your hands and what can you comfortably conceal. I just bought a new BFG Glock 19 (thanks Joe!) and I’m going to make that part of my EDC. I will have to make some changes to how I carry but I will make it work. After evaluating my situation the extra value in having a better sight radius, grip and magazine capacity is worth it to me. Don’t get me wrong, the G43 will still be around and I absolutely love that gun. It is accurate and comfortable and I will continue to carry it regularly. But when able to I will carry the G19. Not everyone can conceal a full-sized handgun, but some people can. If I could I definitely would. If you aren’t sure what you can and cannot conceal, then you need to figure it out rather than let the internet tell you what you can and can’t do. You’ll never know until you actually try it. (TW)

How Well Do You Know Your Gun?

How Well Do You Know Your Gun? When was the last time you performed a “Function System” on your gun? Do you even know what a function system is??? For example, if you purchased a Glock 31 Gen4 from Aegis Tactical, performing a function system test would go something like this:
  • No ammo should be in the Glock or anywhere near you.
  • Disassemble the Glock, hold the slide upside down and make sure the striker protrudes forward of the breech face and check the extractor for proper tension.
  • Depress and hold the striker safety and gently shake to make sure the striker goes up and down in the pin channel.
  • Reassemble the gun and lock the slide to the rear, then make sure the slide stop lever engages.
  • Release the slide. Attempt to press the trigger without engaging the trigger safety. It should not release the trigger.
Let’s stop there. If you have no idea what any of this means, then we advise you sign up for a class and learn how to properly use your weapon. It comes down to this, “How well do you know your gun?” Can you clean it? Maintain it? If it’s a new gun, have you ever taken it to the range or signed up for a class? If not, what would happen if you had to fire the gun for the first time? Perhaps you’ve had your gun for over a year. Does it still work? How do you know for sure? How often do you practice picking up your gun? This is important, because if you need to use the gun, will you be able to pick it up, aim and fire without fumbling? Aegis Tactical suggests that you pick up your gun 500 times over a 90 day period. (Police officers need to get back into the practice of doing this.) Eventually your finger will be in the right place every time you grab it. Maybe you know nothing about gun training, but it’s time to get your head out of the sand and protect yourself! Aegis Tactical is passionate about your safety and the wellbeing of others. Stop in and let us reintroduce you to your gun. Guns and Mustangs!

Guns and Mustangs! When purchasing a Les Baer Custom 1911 Boss 45 acp, you’re receiving the best gun with a unique history. Glock 34 Used 1 Did you know that the Les Baer 1911 Boss was inspired by the 1970 Boss 429 Ford Mustang? This is arguably one of the rarest and most valued muscle cars in history with only 1,358 originally made. The origin of the Boss 429 Mustang was a result of NASCAR. Ford was seeking to develop a Hemi engine that could compete with the famed 426 Hemi from Chrysler in NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series. (Back then it was known as the “Grand National Division.”) NASCAR’s homologation rules required that at least 500 cars be fitted with this motor and sold to the general public. After much consideration, it was decided by Ford that the Mustang would be the car that would house this new engine. If you love historic muscle cars and unique guns, then the Les Baer 1911 Boss is a perfect fit for you. As with other Aegis pistols, the new Boss is guaranteed to shoot 3” groups at 50 yards. Other special features include:
  • Rear cocking serrations on the slide
  • Baer fiber optic front sight (red)
  • Flat mainspring housing, checkered at 20 lpi
  • Extended combat safety
  • Special tactical package
  • Chromed complete lower
  • Blued slide
  • (2) 8-round premium magazines
Both Ford and Baer knew their cars and guns. If you want to pay tribute and add value to your collection, stop in Aegis and check out the Les Baer Custom 1911 Boss.
